Going Small

8 x 5-1/2. Trying it small before a big one is attempted. Have fiddled with it so much that now I’m sick of it. In the reference photo there’s a beautiful historic fence and that dark area has rear view of heads and torsos of onlookers. That was all too much.

  1. Are we looking at a reflection in the Bean? I love the way it’s painted: the barely there trees, the odd perspective, the beautiful bluebehind the golden buildings. It may not be what you were going for, but it’s a very otherworldly take on the city.

  2. This is just what a small cityscape should be. I like the choice of the two vibrant colors you used and the reduction to simple shapes. I like the way the trees frame the Bean and the city reflections. And when I zoom in, I can see texture in the dark shadow that indicates heads of onlookers.

  3. Interesting take on a cityscape. Sometimes less is more. Like your limited choice of colors and values. Composition is great and odd angles give a surrealistic feel to it all.
