A few odd paintings….

This one’s not too odd, but it’s just trying on the frame for size…it all works well imo…

I love these peaches…

Now here’s an odd painting. If you look at it too long, you’ll get seasick! I was out to prove I could paint cloth just like Elaine, but I can’t and I’m not really very good at setting up still lifes either! But it was an interesting exercise.

A couple of beach scenes, top one still in progress. I like the sky in the second one but I have to work on my squiggle people…I saw a painting in a thrift store that was a watercolor beach scene that was just flat blocks of color and it worked so well…not getting the same effect here…

  1. Like that little bend in the tree at about window level. Hot humid Sunday just about this time of year when the first yellow leaves of fall make their ominous appearance. The peaches stand stalwart in their swirling pond of blue. Bigger bowl of fruit and less table cloth. I don't know, those beach scenes look kind of washed out.

  2. Not so very odd at all. The long vertical format really suits the tree and frames up well. The beach scenes have all the softness of a hazy summer day, especially the last one. And I'm with you on still life setups—it's difficult to get a good one, isn't it? The fruit looks great, but I think the fruit bowl needs to be fuller. I think it's harder to paint flat, neat linens like yours. But the star of the week—probably even the summer—is that perfect dish of peaches. They have all the richness and depth and shape of Cezanne at his best. And the colors are gorgeous. I'm in love!

  3. Okay, I luv the first painting. Even framed, although I hope the black won't be part of it - it's too starkly dramatic for the delicacy of the painting. Peaches with shadows on a blue plate on a wooden table are perfection. The still life needs work, but it's a good attempt. The bowl needs rounded out and it looks as though there's multiple perspectives going on between the bowl and the cloth. Give it another try, maybe looser like the one above. I like your experiments with long distance beach vistas too.
