I don’t know if I already posted this pic but it was a very interesting plant in Mississippi. Landlord said that it was a ginger plant. Watercolor on 140 paper.
While I was happy with that one I was not happy with this lake at sunset. I’ve been trying to do this for some time now.
This is part of my drink series. How to make an Old Fashioned. I was not happy with the straightness of the different elements or most of the background but I liked the colors and the glass stuff. Watercolor on 140.

ReplyDeleteYes! The tests came through—and welcome back, Greeta! So.... on to the paintings. I find the ginger plant fascinating in its structure. And it feels like a Georgia O'Keeffe. I like the lake at sunset. You've captured the light where the last warm yellow bits linger under the tree canopy. And the straightness of the cocktail fixings doesn't bother me at all. You can always say you'd already had a few if you feel like explaining. The background just adds to the story—it's about relaxing at a summer cottage in the evening.
ReplyDeleteThese are Alan’s paintings right? I love the sunset at the lake. It’s very mysterious, owing partially to the composition- the way the foreground trees are cut off and the sense of light in their foliage and all the pink. This would be a great cover for a murder mystery book! The colors in the drink painting are very unified it is like a (long gone) summer evening...FYI there is something very southern about all these paintings...very atmospheric!
ReplyDeleteThat flower looks like a savage beast. The lake one does have a very southern gothic looked to me, strange things going ou under the Spanish moss at sundown. I like the ingredients but like you, not the background especially that big bent tree.
