Two projects…

The top one is close to done, but when I started putting the little flowers on the stem I realized I have to darken the outside wall  a bit. The second one I’m referencing a Paula Becker Moderson painting but using Nora’s face. The actual painting and Nora’s pic are below.

  1. I remember when we did our show on Nighthawks and I was mapping out the lines for the diner. I thought they would be horizontal and vertical meeting at right angles. But no every line was skewed just a bit, and I think I remember reading that he made a point of never having anything meet at right angles, everything he did was skewed just a little bit. And so it is in your delightful painting. Is the viewer outside looking into the house and out the windows on the opposite wall? The chair is nice but I would make it without the curves to match your world of straight line. But maybe that is your statement.

  2. I see what you mean about darkening the outside wall to highlight the blossoms, but I do like the original light, too. You'll figure it out. What I really like is the delicacy of the lines of the forsythia branches. That truly becomes the focus. I think the curves on the chair might be a pathway into the flowy branches, so that doesn't bother me at all. As for Nora, that's going to be lovely--all your favorite subjects (trees and granchildren) rolled into one. The bow is a perfect touch. And aren't you clever to hide her hands in the folds of the dress?

  3. I assume that you are going to darken the wall outside of the left windowpane. Other than that I really like it. Love steam radiators.
