Ok. I’m finished with this painting. I’m not crazy about it but I don’t hate it like I used to. I used everything in my bag- watercolor, gouache, crayons, watercolor pencils, pastels and anything else I had. Now, there are many things that I like about it-the lamp, the tree, the windows, the foreground buildings, and many other things. But, they don’t work together and there appears to be nothing I can do to make them.
I saw this big onion on the counter of the orchard we go to in Michigan and thought it would be perfect for Yupo. It’s all watercolor on 14 X 11 heavy yupo. Somebody else bought it-the onion not my painting.
That onion is magnificent! I love everything about it—the textures, the brushwork, the colors and the composition. I agree with you about the first one. I certainly don't hate it, and there are parts that really shine (like the light, LOL) but it lacks the presence of the onion. I don't know why either—maybe too much going on? Whatever, you have that onion!
ReplyDeleteIsn’t it supposed to be a night scene? There’s light emanating from the streetlight, so it must be 3am. Paint the sky a dark purple blue and call it done!

The tower stands tall and proud, and so do those bare trees, but the leaves are just a vapour, mist from yesteryear. But the onion is like a bowling ball blasting down the lane and right into my heart. Love the combination of the linear and the circular. Double A Plus.
