4 bookmarks and this other thing.

Maybe a little touching up on a couple of bookmarks, and this other thing (9x12), I think it's better than when you last saw it, and I think I will leave it like this because new work beckons.

  1. Like the big one. How did you make the white stripes?

    1. I have a couple embossing tools and I put down a ruler and rub them back and forth maybe five times. I get a narrow little depression where sometimes the paint stays out of and sometimes it flows into. I would like to get a deeper trench but if I rub too hard it tears the surface.

    2. You might try a high quality q-tip.

    3. For some reason blogspot did not know my name. Anyway what I was trying to say was I wanted something deeper. As to Q tips, a lot of times I get my yupo with grease spots before I even take the sheet out of the little book. I have been wiping my brush on a bar of soap, but bar soap has its own oils that make it undependable. So I have begun dipping a q tip into a saucer of dishwashing liquid and and applying that. Has a big effect on pushing away the wet paint and I have thought of using the soap as part of my composition but I don't think I am a master enough to handle that.

Ten Cat these days at five is just me, Eric, and a neighbor of mine, and sometimes (almost always) when the bar is completely empty she will give us a little chat of her hometown in Moblie Alabama. I miss our seminars.

  2. I like the painting and I agree you should stop now. It's not overly "controlled" yet and there's movement and action and vibrancy. The bookmarks, as we've been noticing, do read better in person. The tree background is softer and more spring-y and beautiful. The colors and gradations on the left one are much more subtle and sophisticated in real life, too. Another success!
