Do-Over….

This is do-over week for me. I was very disappointed in last week’s paintings, so I decided to tackle the same subjects again, on better paper in some instances and taking more time and thought. I find it very difficult to wait for things to dry, so I work on all of these at the same time. These are still works in progress, except for the last one. I did that after watching a clouds/sunset tutorial. Changed the composition and using better paper for the next iteration….

  1. I agree. Especially painting on Yupo. It takes so long to dry when I want the paint to set that I often paint another painting to have something to do.
Love the fall colors of the first one. I’m assuming it’s a tree. Great terra cotta pot. I’m wondering what the shapes on the bottom are. Or is it just a tablecloth?
I like the beautiful colors of the third one. You might make the reflections more squiggly instead of a straight line.
The colors in the completed sunset are stunning but I think that I like the first one better. Maybe it’s just too strong.
But kudos for using better paper and using videos. I love learning from other artists on video.

  2. I like the way the first one dares to be abstract. I like everything in the second except the table which could be more granular like the pot and the frond. Love the radiant lake but the background is too noisy and I can't make out what is going on in the foreground.

  3. Well worth doing over. The tree is magnificent—the colors are so autumnal, the viewpoint is unique and the level of abstraction just works. Love that pot and the leaves. Maybe the mosaic floor could be bolder to match the other two elements. I know the girls on the beach at sunset isn't finished yet, but the underpainting is beautiful, as is that backlit bush on the left. The last one is interesting, too but has a very different feeling than the other. No comparisons from me until the first one is finished—it's too soon now!

  4. I luv all your continuing experimentations of the these images. How you change elements, colors, sizes of each one as you go on. Sometimes subtly, sometimes shockingly. It's all very interesting.
