I finished Cool Animal Names part 1. Jeepers, I wonder if Ken's examples are influencing me to do a series? Next... I'm not sure. Maybe I'll do some studies of others' works, like Elaine O. is doing. It seems to really be influencing her painting, and I could use a little inspiration right now. Current events paralyze me if I'm not careful.

This is wonderful. I love the skink's tail. What a cool animal—it would make a great brooch! I am in awe of your composition... how everything balances and flows. The color bits on the bird balance the grass and the skink; the lines on the skink call back the squirrel. The squirrel has so much texture and shape. And all of them have personalities. This is very series-worthy!
ReplyDeleteWhat I like best about the 30-day explorations is that it gives me a starting point to paint something — anything. I don't agonize about the subject or style, since I don't care how any single one turns out. Even if one is awful, there are 29 more tries. And at the end, I've gotten a new skill (like flat brush or brush pen)...or, at least, I've gotten a little better at something.
Well done, I'd luv to see more unusually named critters painted with such panache and character. They could be a counter-point for the world right now.
ReplyDeleteCurvy fellow that skink, striking an art nouveau pose.
ReplyDeleteI love the amount of detail you’ve put into each one. AsElaine says, they all have personalities...in fact that sapsucker reminds me of the guy in the WH....
