June 23, 2018

We begin with thanks to Greeta for the photos (and the commentary, too). Thanks! That said, you'll notice that we're still into portraiture. Greeta began with a painting of Sister Jean and some Loyola Ramblers. As if she knew, Loyola alum Isa showed up in her Loyola hat and shirt. (Isa, Elaine and Greeta all  know Sister Jean. Or course, so does the whole country!)

The next two are continuation paintings for Greeta's Graceland West  Book...first a house....

...and then a statue from Graceland cemetery.

Ken continues his tomato mosaic series and plans to make the background in various blues.

Sara sat in for Elaine to ensure that the portraits continue. It seems to have worked, although both of these subjects are well known.

Tony did another Picassoesque portrait of Anthony Bourdain.

...and another portrait using his new water-soluble marker technique.

Steve added the tail to his merman and only needs to finish the face.

Bill finished his fruit still life....

...before moving to a rainy street scene in Brussels.

Madeleine’s paintings both look out from a boat.

She promises she will get off the boat next week.

Isa did a lot of drawing and almost gave up. We're glad she didn't.

John’s portrait of his former teacher and wife is almost finished. However, he thinks the intricate background still needs work.

Marva gets it on with foliage and, as promised, a hot sky.

Alan worked on a series of pineapple paintings. The first one uses handmade Khadi paper...

The next two are on Alan's beloved Yupo...

Then he uses standard watercolor paper...

...before switching back to Yupo.

Alan's last unfinished painting is on watercolor paper.

Once again, our newbies are blowing us away. Douad's advanced color wheel is made to look like an eye.

With time to spare, he splits a page into four and begins to paint four separate paintings.

Not to be outdone, Rabia used masque to add designs to her color wheel.

Rabia also finished her tree from last week....

... as well as painting flowers...

...and butterflies...

...and a conceptual pointillist flower.

Meanwhile, if you're looking for something free and artistic, how about an improv show... a free show at that? Here are the details.

You're invited

You are cordially invited to a free improv show by the Meteor Shower Players (our very own Ken and Elaine are members). The show will be held on Tuesday, June 26 at the Chicago Cultural Center in the Renaissance Court. Renaissance Court is located in the Chicago Cultural Center at the corner of Michigan and Randolph. As you come in the Randolph Street door, you will see the Renaissance Court rooms on the right.
