The first one done in class. Looking at it later, it broke the portrait rules. Width of mouth should reach center of eyes. Nope. Tried to fix. Distance between two eyes should be width of one eye. Nope. Did a second one. Now different issues. I’ll just give her both. Then she’ll know it was hard work.
Portrait rules?! Who needs them! They are both good paintings, but I prefer the first one. You've got more of the feeling of the girl in the reference. The eye spacing seems right on the first one and the reference mouth actually seems a littler wider than the "rule," so you've nailed that too. If I were the girl in the photo, I'd love them both, but I'd frame the first one.
