This is how that lovely rugged old tree trunk turned out. A letdown from that bold early version which I admitted I didn't deserve because it was just a lucky blotting with a paper towel. I guess I like the foreground, but the background is not pulling its weight. I think I will add some more willow branches. A lot more.

I saw this on FB and felt a little sad. A beautiful tree was sacrificed….i do like the foreground, but the weight of the trunk overwhelms those wispy branches. And the color of the sky is just too cheerful for the monumentality of the trunk.

ReplyDeleteKen, I have to agree with Sara and Alan on this. It was magnificent in its simplicity. I think adding the background reduces the effect of the tree trunks. And now, for some reason, the fact that the slanting trunk is so uniform from top to bottom bothers me when it didn't before. Accept the gift of the watercolor gods when it's bestowed!
