In response to Ken’s statement that there are no beautiful automobiles in America, I give you the Chevy Van. I’ll mat it like a triptych when I buy some more mat board.
The big one is 9 X 12 on 140 # coldpress and the little ones are 5 X 7. Tires are hard to paint
And for something completely different this is a mountain pond on Yupo.
I need to do something about that blue streak and maybe tone down the value of the purple rocks on the mountain face. I like the top third and the bottom third but I somehow need to link them in the middle.

Once again, the colors are "off" from the real life version. but the soft palette is beautiful. Love the triptych. It has the vibe of a magazine ad from the 40s or 50s; it feels like you're really celebrating the car and highlighting its features. I'm not sure you need to mess with the blue streak—or anything in that landscape. It's lovely. I especially like the submerged rocks in the foreground.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct about the landscape. When I saw it on the blog i immediately started to fix it but the actual painting looked completely different. The camera heightens the value of the darker blues and purples putting them out of wack. I might do some small changes but nothing like I thought I’d have to do.
ReplyDeleteI like the abstract quality of the landscape — and the specificity of your van triptych. Such a contrast in styles but both nicely painted.
