Sara’s Pear Trees
Here’s the finished Pear Trees on Nagle Avenue. 12 x 16. It’s a weird painting for me — I think it’s the first time I didn’t use a reference photo or pant direct from life. It’s watercolor and gouache— and how did Facebook know I was using gouache? Yesterday I got an ad for a gouache portrait painting class! Anyways I enjoyed the process and I like the painting. I feel it’s a little weighted to the right side and tried to balance that a bit, but not sure if I succeeded. Won’t make Showtime tomorrow, so leave me your comments!

We missed you! This is really lovely. Great atmosphere; great colors, especially the trees. The line of demarcation between the trees is so subtle but so nice. And the way the trunks shine through the leaves is perfect. The only thing that slightly confuses me is the shadow of the trees. It seems to sharply follow the roof line instead of organically continuing. The weighting doesn't bother me at all, but you can blot out some of the darker green at top left and use the spring green from the right. That would add weight to the cityscape and balance it. I don't think you need to, but if you wanted to... Personally, I love the light on the trees and the colors. It's got a wonderful retro feel.
ReplyDeleteHas a look. I like those marching roofs and the Bonnard off-white of the right side of the tree.
